And the winner is …

It’s unique. It’s Christmassy. It’s Rudolph all the way!! Never has a reindeer and his nose been so celebrated!

Congratulations to Robbie Williams and ‘Rudolph’ – winner of 2019’s Christmas Carol of the Year! Sporting the obligatory key change to lift your spirits, this song makes you remember that ‘Christmas’ and ‘Good Music’ were meant to go together. The beat makes you wish you could play kit. The soring strings make you wish you played the violin. And Robbie’s voice is like enjoying Sue’s Spiced Rose Cherries on homemade vanilla ice-cream! Thank you, Robbie, for this original gem!

Grinch made a good run for the top, and a late surge from Jenn and Amy made it a real comp.

The Foreign Language Sub-Category has expanded our collective horizons. Songs and styles never before encountered have now become part of our lives forever.

The winner of the Foreign Language Christmas song is ‘Santa la Noche’ by Gaby Moreno. Wow. Go, Gaby! What a voice and what an arrangement! O Holy Night like you’ve never heard it before romped in the win over the rest of the field with a gritty and soulful performance that left you in awe … and also kind of scared to bump into Gaby in a dark alley. If we did meet in a dark alley – I’d congratulate her on her voice, she’d be surprised I know about it, and then we’d go have jalapeno poppers at the local Mexican. May this Guatemalan dillettante be eternally part of your Christmas music catalogue!

And so, after another successful hunt, the gates are thrown open again.

We are the fossickers. The explorers. The discoverers of GREAT Christmas music.

Is there a Christmas song that takes you to the heights?
A song that inspires?
A song that rocks your world?
A song that could be … nominated?

Until Christmas 2020 … the search for the star continues …
