Go tell it on the mountain! CCOTY 2019 is here!
A new champion will be born on Monday, 23rd December and not a moment too soon!
In addition to the main category of ‘Christmas Carol of 2019’, the long-awaited ‘foreign language’ category is sure to send you on a journey – not one you have chosen for yourself – but one that will be rich with cultural enlightenment and unique discoveries you could never have imagined!
The ‘foreign language’ category does have conditions, however. Consider it like the government ‘smart traveller’ advice, or trip advisor reviews – take heed and all will be well.
- Condition number 1: “Feliz Navidad” is banned forever. If you submit it – you’ll be placed on a CCOTY terrorist watch list.
- Condition number 2: The song is not to be in English. It is to be in a language foreign to English. It does not need to originate from a foreign realm. Simple?
We all know the conditions of the main category: Search for Christmas songs – make sure they’re dang good!
Okay. I think we’re clear.
The search for the star continues! Go forth and seek … find … bring it home.
Details:
- Submissions due – Tuesday, December 10
- Send to: caroloftheyear@gmail.com or just comment on this blog post
- Nominations announced – Thursday, December 12
- Voting opens – Saturday, December 14
- Voting closes – Sunday, December 22
- Winner announced – Monday, December 23
There are some Spotify playlists that will help you keep track of progress.
(For non-spotify users – playlists of the finalist will be made available at Nomination announcement time.)
The Rolling Submissions playlist will be updated as submissions for the main category come in.
If nothing else – it should just be a good Christmas music list. Sometimes there are ‘maverick’ submissions. We don’t apologies for this. The journey is fraught with danger.
Out of these songs – nominations are chosen. So you can join the upset when a song you like isn’t chosen – and join the euphoria when you fave makes it to the final.
Submissions for the sub-category – Foreign Language – will be placed in the Sub-Category Submissions playlist. Not for the faint-hearted … but sure to be oh so rewarding!
The Rolling Nominees Playlist is where you’ll discover who has made the illustrious list of finalists for the main category this year! Once they’re announced on December 12 – listen hard. Make your choice. Vote here using the online poll when the time comes.
Foreign language finalist will be in the Sub-category Nominations playlist.

I love this season so much!!!!
Worth the wait EVERY time!
Woot – It’s back! Thanks Amy
And… it’s definitely got too much English to qualify, but this is worth a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0mT-zNxRMw
Get you white guy/girl dancing going, all y’all!
Good one Laura! Totally get it re the dancing!! I always wonder what it would be like being a god and looking down on a bunch of humans doing the same dance at the same time. I think I’d be like – what on earth are you doing?!? Crazy Cats.
Well, dancing is scriptural, so I’m sure He wants to see more of it! Hopefully not from me specifically…
As a wise keyboard player from School of Rock once said, ‘I am not cool enough’.
Hahaha. Self-awareness is a great gift, Laura. Well done.
Well, just for something a little different …
Here’s something in a different language for Christmas.
This one is Ukrainian:

Your commitment to the search is commendable! Thanks Rebecca. I’ll put it on the list!
Okay – here are more discoveries (these aren’t too bad!):
and 2 older ones, less impactful:
