And the winner is …

Congratulations to Noel on winning 2018’s Christmas Carol of the Year!

Lauren delivers powerhouse vocals over a haunting arrangement which is worthy of a CCOTY crown. Her diaphragm seriously never gave up for one second! Go, Lauren!

It triumphed by one single, solitary vote over CeCe Winans’ O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Which for me – was one of the greatest orchestrations I have heard since ‘Christmas Joy‘ by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir happened upon us in 2010. CeCe gave a seriously Christmassy song, with a commanding vocal nested beautifully in the string flourishes, heralding horns, dramatic choir entries.  I mean, really. Wow!!

2018 did offer up some great finds in the Christmas music world. Thanks to all those who searched far and wide! You have done very well! The CCOTY Submissions Playlist is a great collection of quality – except for maybe that ‘Mary’s boy child’ one that you put in, BenA.

What else 2018 offered was a sensational bunch of original Christmas songs by some of our friends.

So really – who is the winner this year? We are the winners! Another point was scored against the terror that can be flung so carelessly toward our ears by undiscerning Christmas Music Playing band-wagon hopper-onerers. We are clawing our way back!

Here’s the YouTube Playlist of original songs for your enjoyment over the Christmas Season.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

And so, after another successful hunt, the gates are thrown open again.

We are the fossickers. The explorers. The discoverers of GREAT Christmas music.

Is there a Christmas song that takes you to the heights?
A song that inspires?
A song that rocks your world?
A song that could be … nominated?

Until Christmas 2019 … the search for the star continues …
