“Do they know it’s Christmas Carol of the Year time?” would be the more appropriate question.
The Economist has reported on the streaming of Christmas songs per day as a percentage of total music streaming in 2016.
Proposing that more Christmas music is streamed where there are less daylight hours, and where is it cold and wet at Christmas time – the article fails to explain why Australia, where it is Summer time, comes from behind with an incredible increase in the days preceding December 25th, to match the USA percentage where it is Winter time.
Clearly going against the premise of the article – perhaps the result is discounted as some kind of outlier stat and perhaps I’m setting up some ‘season of perpetual hope’ propaganda – but let me propose why a southern hemisphere country almost out-streams America in the Christmas Music stakes.
